John George Cressey

John is an artist working from his home studio in Devon, UK.

His love of art has been a lifelong pursuit which, in more recent years, has combined with his fascination of wildlife. Other than studying art at A level, he is largely self-taught.

Shortly after college he sustained a life-altering injury and now uses a wheelchair. Despite the injury affecting the strength and dexterity of his hands, he was determined to continue to draw and paint, and has learned to adapt to his physical limitations in order to continue his passion for art.

Having experimented with many different mediums, techniques and subjects, John has discovered his greatest enjoyment in wildlife realism painting. He uses water-based oil paints on linen canvas in order to achieve his desired level of detail and vibrancy.

Inspired by wildlife photographers, John enjoys capturing the unique expressions of each subject, whether it be the wild power of a big cat, or the delicate beauty of a kingfisher.
